What is an Energy Converter?

Energy is the ability to do work, but different fields measure it differently. In physics, the standard unit is the 'Joule' (named after James Prescott Joule). In nutrition, we use 'Calories'—but confusingly, the 'Calories' on food labels are actually Kilocalories (kcal). 1 food Calorie = 1000 chemistry calories.
In the energy sector, we use Kilowatt-hours (kWh) to bill electricity. 1 kWh is the energy used by a 1,000-watt appliance running for one hour (equal to 3.6 million Joules). In the US, heating systems are often rated in BTUs (British Thermal Units). Our tool bridges these disparate systems.
